Independence Day. I love that holiday. It offers up the opportunity to experience a piece of Americana to the max.
I love to check my paper a few days before the holiday to see what’s happening around the city. I also take a look at the city website to see what special activities they have planned.
In my old home town, they started the day with a 5k run that was open to all ages, from grandkids on up to grandpas and grandmas and everyone in between. How fun would it be to invite all your parents to join you for the day, starting with a race like this. For elderly parents and grandparents, find a nice cool shady place to sit and enjoy the run, cheer on you and your kids, hold the little ones when they wear out, and reward you all with cold bottles of water and soda when it’s over. Who knows, grandma might even be the winner and your child can award her with a special grandma gift of a big hug and kiss.
Then head over to a local Fourth of July carnival. There’s almost always at least one in the vicinity. Have fun throwing darts, guessing weights, and enjoying all the sights, sounds, and FOODS that this fun occasion offers.
By then it will be time to head back to the house where grandkids and grandparents can cuddle together and recharge their batteries for the evening’s fun activities.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, ice tea. I’m getting hungry just typing this! If you really want some great gifts for grandparents, you might consider splurging on steak, shrimp, or Portobello Mushrooms. All delectable treats that they might not make for themselves.
Then it’s time for the main event. The fireworks! Whether you watch them in your own front yard or head for a community provided fireworks show, you’ll all end this delightful day with a big smile on your face! Just in case one of the grandparents isn’t up to joining you for this, have a fireworks show or two ready for them to watch on TV while resting. Or you could go with my favorite Fourth of July show, Independence Day. I just love the rousing speech the “President” gives at the end of that movie!

LOL – I’ve been traveling and lost my password to get into my site! Somehow I mixed up the dates for the postings and the Fourth of July got posted instead of Easter!
Now it’s fixed and Grandma Gifts of Love is ready for BOTH fun holidays!
Thanks for stopping by!
Always love fireworks.
Mike
