Green and Personalized Gifts for Grandparents

Mother’s Day will be here soon and I have a great idea for wrapping those thoughtful gifts for grandma. If your moms and grandmothers are like mine, they either went through the Great Depression or their parents did. Couple those memories with today’s economy and I’ve found that many are working overtime to look for creative ways to save money, no matter how little it may be.

Of those, many are enjoying the various reusable shopping bags available at so many stores and they never seem to have enough. They usually range from 50 cents – 99 cents. That’s cheaper than a gift bag from most of the dollar stores. Not only that, they’re quite sturdy and usually quite attractive. I also found out that most stores are very accepting of people bringing bags in from competing stores.

For my mom’s last birthday, I popped the audio books I had bought her into a bright red Target reusable bag, along with some of her favorite candy bars. When it came time for gifts, I handed her the festive looking bag and her face broke into a huge smile. She was as thrilled to get the cute bag as she was to get the audio books!

You can dress up these “green” grandma gifts even more by adding a little white or multi-colored tissue paper if you’d like, although if your gift recipient is really striving to be extra “green” be sure to help them save it for future gifts. As long as you didn’t go with pink, it’ll work perfect for those interesting grandpa gifts you’ll be getting for Father’s Day.
