When the kids are little, it’s really hard to get all the every day things done. Trying to add in special things like making gifts for grandma and grandpa can sometimes seem impossible. But it’s important to realize you aren’t just making gifts for grandparents. You are training your children in the art of respect, courtesy, love, joy, and kindness. You are teaching them to look out for the needs of others beyond their immediate circle of siblings and parents. That’s an invaluable gift to your children!

Some fun ideas I’ve used  or received over the years include:

• Make bags of potpourri with your child. This makes delicious smelling grandma gifts. This is especially true if you use wonderfully scented roses.



• Use family photos to create picture albums or books. These wonderful heirloom gifts for grandma will delight her for years to come.
• Take the same photos and burn them onto a cd or save them onto a thumb drive. Help your child’s grandparents set their computer up for a slideshow screensaver. Photo shows like these make wonderful personalized gifts for grandparents at a fraction of the amount I used to spend when my children were little!

Have fun while you are working, but do be sure to discuss the importance of grandmothers and how this shows respect and love for them. All of this will add up to a powerful, fun lesson you will all enjoy now and in the future, when you’re the grandma.
