This Grandma Likes Her Motorcycle Jacket!

Would you believe that, other than two round-the-block rides, I never really rode a motorcycle until I was a Grandma! My husband was going through an extremely stressful time at work, our kids were all adults, and I was back in college. He decided to finally get the motorcycle of his dreams, a Harley Davidson. It wasn’t the Harley Davidson Fatboy he really wanted but he was ecstatic with it nonetheless.

We may be oldie goldies but we still have fun with Harley Davidson accessories_thumb[1]

I was less enthused but pleased that my sweet hubby was happy. With all the headaches he was dealing with at work, it was great to see him having fun and actually relaxing!

We had so much fun heading for the shop to load up on all the fun Harley Davidson accessories. We bought Harley Davidson helmets right off the bat, followed in short order by Harley Davidson T-Shirts and Harley Davidson boots.

I liked wearing those boots as I felt safer having them on my feet when they were so close to the asphalt road. This was especially true when we would go around a curve. That road got awfully close to my little toes and I felt a lot more protected with those heavy Harley Davidson boots on. The only problem was that they were heavy! I could walk faster than pretty much anyone and often did, until I put those boots on. They slowed me down big time. I got in the habit of carrying a pair of tennis shoes with me in the motorcycle saddlebags. That way I could change into them if we were going to be doing a lot of walking. Then I’d put the boots back on when we prepared to jump back on the bike.

With safety at the top of our minds, we also bought a motorcycle jacket for each of us, along with one for all our daughters to share. They didn’t want to wear the comfy, bigger, “too grandma-ish” one I liked, but since they all were about the same size, they could look sleek and slim in the cute one we bought for them.

I’ll have to admit, riding a motorcycle wasn’t at the top of my list at that time of my life, but seeing my husband smile so big definitely was! And if he was going to be tooling around town on it, I knew that, for me and for my season of life, I needed to be right there with him on the back of that Harley and I was. It was definitely one of those Grandma Gifts of Love I could give to the love of my life and I was glad to do it. And boy, did we have fun on his Harley!

My one regret? Very few photos! Digital cameras were just arriving on the scene and not very easy to use, let alone very good quality. Nowadays, it’s a whole different ball game, or should I say, motorcycle ride! If you’re enjoying making fun family memories on your own bike, I heartily recommmend that you invest in a reasonably priced, easy to use digital camera, like the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS ELPH silver digital camera! You’ll love it, you’ll love the fabulous photos that it helps you take, and you’ll love savoring your family memories for decades to come!
